Kim Smith is completing her 25th year in education. She has a certification in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. She taught second grade for five years at K.D.S. DAR Elementary School, while earning a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. She then served as an elementary school counselor at Grassy Elementary School for five years before returning to K.D.S. DAR Elementary School, to serve as counselor for eleven years. During that time, she earned an Educational Specialist degree in School Counseling and additional certification in school psychometry. For the past four years, she worked in Madison County as a school psychometrist.
Kim is married to Kent Smith, who drives a school bus for the DAR children. They currently own the Grant H & R Block office. Kim’s oldest daughter is Erica Stewart who is the media specialist at the middle school. Her daughter, Ashton Brown, is a speech and language pathologist and works for Huntsville Hospital. Her son, Trey Sutphin, is a chemical engineer and lives in North Carolina. Kim has a stepson, Caleb Smith, who has recently started a new job in technical support with a company that is based at NASA in Huntsville.
Kim is blessed with five grandsons and enjoys spending time with them very much. She is happy to be back on the DAR campus, where she is an alumni from the class of ‘82 ! She has many happy memories of attending school here and she is looking forward to serving as the middle school counselor.
